CONVEYANCE TAX

THE UNFAIR HIDDEN TAX

What is this Conveyance Tax everyone is talking about?  This tax, paid to municipalities and the state of Connecticut, is charged to Connecticut property owners at the time of closing when they sell their Connecticut real estate property.  Connecticut property owners pay this tax in addition to their property taxes.

Several years ago Connecticut Legislators voted to approve a temporary increase in our Conveyance tax. This  "temporary" increase to Connecticut's Conveyance Tax was originally supposed to sunset in 2004,  but Connecticut legislators have continually voted to extend it.

The Connecticut Association of REALTORS® has created a petition asking our elected officials to honor the scheduled roll-back of CT’s Home Tax and to oppose the efforts of those seeking to cancel this long overdue relief.

CAR is asking their members, and especially members of the public, to collect signatures by circulating the petition below amongst their clients, neighbors, co-workers, etc.  All signatures must accompany a printed name and an accurate, complete address.  All petitions must be submitted to Litchfield County Board of REALTORS, Inc. Board office by Friday, March 20, 2008.  Only original copies of the signed petitions will be accepted; we can not accept faxed copies.  If you have any questions please contact the Board office at 860-482-9816.
