RENT SECURITY PROGRAM - Litchfield County Board of REALTORS®, Inc., Affordable Housing Committee developed a Rent Security Program designed to assist local organizations in providing security deposits for low income recipients. This program provides a one time gift of $2000.00 to three local organizations, on a revolving basis starting in 2006, for the purpose of providing one or more of their clients with a “rent security deposit”. The Affordable Housing Committee presented this year’s recipient, Winchester Emergency Shelter, with a check for $2000.00 on January 26, 2011. Bruce Mochan the Executive Director of the Winchester Emergency Shelter expressed his sincere appreciation to the REALTORS® for their kindness and generosity.

NEW FLOOD ZONE MAPS & ELEVATION CERTIFICATE PRESENTATION - The Education Committee of Litchfield County Board of REALTORS®, Inc. held a presentation on New Flood Zone Maps & Elevation Certificates with guest speaker Mr. Jason G. Racette a licensed, professional land surveyor and owner of Boundary Consulting Experts, LLC. The program was sponsored by Raynard & Peirce, Inc. (Insurance) and Raynard & Peirce Real Estate, Co.; the Board and all their members thank them for their support. Mr. Racette explained how FEMA's 2008 revisions to CT Flood Zone Maps expanded many of the flood zones. Properties that were never before in a flood zone were placed in a flood zone, and homeowners who have been out of the flood zone for more than half the life of their mortgage are now being required to purchase flood insurance. He further explained how property owners may be eligible to have their home removed from the flood zone, and if successful, how they may be entitled to a full refund of up to two years' worth of insurance premiums, or up to six years' worth of premiums if they live in a condominium. LEGAL ROUND TABLE
- Once again Board Counsel Attorney Stephanie Weaver did a
fantastic job coordinating her annual Legal Round Table, which was
held on June 15, 2011. Stephanie outdid herself this year by
providing ten lucky attendees with a fifteen dollar gift certificate
to Peaches & Cream in Litchfield! We are truly grateful for
the wonderful program she continuously provides. The gift

GATES SCHOLARSHIP WINNER - The Connecticut Association of REALTORS® presented its 2011 Raymond F. Gates Jr. Memorial Scholarships at its July 19th Board of Directors meeting. The Raymond F. Gates, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1976 in memory of Raymond F. Gates, Jr. following his tragic death in an automobile accident. Mr. Gates was the Executive Vice President of the Connecticut Association of REALTORS®. Over the past 35 years, children of REALTORS® have been awarded scholarships totaling approximately $675,000. For the 2011-2012 academic years, the Connecticut Association of REALTORS® received nearly 150 applications. This year, 44 outstanding children of CT REALTORS® were selected to receive a total of $44,000 in scholarships. Congratulations to Katelin Grieco the daughter of REALTOR® member Becky Grieco of Prudential Premier Homes for winning a $1000 Raymond F. Gates, Jr. Memorial Scholarship from CAR! Katelin is a junior at Saint Joseph's University where she is majoring in International Business with a minor in Italian. While at Saint Joseph’s, Katelin has achieved Dean’s List three semesters and has been inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Not only does Katelin excel academically, but her extracurricular activity includes being elected an All-Star and team officer in field hockey. Katelin is the daughter of Mark & Becky Grieco. Becky is a REALTOR® at Prudential Premier Homes and a member of the Litchfield County Board.

surpassed this year's goal by collecting $3,655, and would like to

ANNUAL MEETING....Our
Annual Meeting was held on November 21st at Cornucopia Banquet Hall.
